Paris 2024 Paralympics: A Showcase of Determination and Excellence


The Paris 2024 Paralympics, taking place from August 28 to September 8, is an extraordinary event that celebrates the incredible abilities and resilience of athletes with disabilities from across the globe. This edition marks the 17th Summer Paralympic Games, with over 4,400 athletes from 180 National Paralympic Committees competing in 549 medal events across 22 sports.

Key Highlights of the Paris 2024 Paralympics

One of the most remarkable aspects of this year's Paralympics is the decision to host the Opening Ceremony outside a traditional stadium. Held along the Champs-Élysées and culminating at Place de la Concorde, the ceremony showcased Paris's commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.

Among the 22 sports, Para athletics and Para swimming are the largest, featuring 164 and 141 medal events, respectively. The inclusion of various classifications ensures fair competition among athletes with different impairments, making the games more inclusive and competitive.

India's Performance at Paris 2024

India has sent its largest-ever contingent of 84 athletes, competing across 12 disciplines. As of now, India has won 15 medals, including three golds, five silvers, and seven bronzes. Notable performances include Avani Lekhara, who defended her gold in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 category, setting a new world record. Preethi Pal also made history by winning India's first-ever track event medal with a bronze in the women's 100m T35 race.
